Urban Dirt and Rhine Breezes

Join us in the Rheingarten for a Friday afternoon dedicated to the tactile work of urban gardening. As May brings the first consistent warmth to Cologne, we will gather to assess the communal beds, share extra seedlings, and tackle the early spring weeds that have taken hold along the promenade. It is a practical, low-stakes effort to keep our corner of the Altstadt green amidst the heavy foot traffic and river views. We will focus on the basics: loosening soil, identifying what survived the winter, and perhaps getting a few starts in the ground. The vibe is collaborative but non-committal; if you are more interested in the Rhine view than the rototilling, that is perfectly acceptable.

  Gloves On and Tool Tally

  Find the group near the planters and do a quick inventory of who brought what seeds or hand tools while we wait for any stragglers.

  Seedling Exchange and Soil Turn

  Trade your surplus starts and begin the light labor of prepping the earth for the late-spring planting cycle.
• 3:15 PM
  Tactical Weeding

  A focused effort on clearing out the invasive growth from the shared perennial beds while the afternoon sun is still high.
• 3:50 PM
  The Garden Debrief

  A final check of the plots followed by a slow dispersal toward the nearby Altstadt cafe stalls for a post-dirt drink.
